This small, attractive Texas Ebony block is 98% heartwood.  The grain pattern is linear-to-wavy throughout the block.    The heartwood has pretty variations in color, on the dark chocolate brown spectrum.   As you can see in the photos, there is one bit of wane along one corner, where the block intersects the bark.  There's a thin veneer of bark left, sort of looks like elepant skin.

This block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.  It's been heat-treated to ensure there are no critters left inside.
