Texas Ebony Block TE-562
1.75" x 1.75" x 8"
This is a beautiful piece of Texas Ebony heartwood. We've cut it into spindles of 1 3/4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight. There is a sliver of creamy colored sapwood along one edge; it does not penetrate far into the block.
We have air-dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10-12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb/ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available in North America. The finished products are exquisite.
This block has some very minor end-grain checking (see close-up photo). There is also a small crack mid-block that you may wish to use CA glue on prior to turning.
