Texas Ebony Block TE-561 1.75" x 1.75" x 8.2" 1.1 lbs. This is a beautiful piece of Texas Ebony heartwood. We've cut it into spindles of 1 3/4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. There is a thin sliver of creamy colored sapwood along one edge. We have air-dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10-12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb/ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available in North America. The finished products are exquisite. This block has some end-grain checking (see close-up photo) and one crack that is larger. The open crack near the block's label extends about 5 inches down the face of the block; we've discounted because of the crack. The open crack will need epoxy or CA glue prior to turning. |
