This is a nice end-grain block of Slippery Elm (aka Red Elm).  It has a beautiful warmth to the wood, with color of light reddish-brown. The grain on this piece is long and straight, slightly inclined to the long axis. There are lots of small knots that add character to this piece.

It's been air-dried to a moisture content of 10-12%. 

This piece is discounted! It's got slightly irregular dimensions, with a wane face and edge that make it slightly narrower at one end than the other. There are some pith-associated cracks along one edge you may want to treat with CA glue. If turning, these will turn off as you bring the block to round. We've discounted this piece a bit because of the extra features.
