Slippery Elm Block RE-134 4" x 4" x 14" 5.3 lbs. This is a nice end-grain block of Slippery Elm (aka Red Elm). It has a beautiful warmth to the wood, with color of light reddish-brown. The grain on this piece is long and mostly straight. There a few branch buds that give a bit of chatoyance to the piece. This will look particularly nice once finished. This piece would be suitable for flat our round work. It's been air-dried to a moisture content of 10-12%. This block has been marked down due to a crack that penetrates well into the block. If turning this, you will need to cut down to avoid the crack or alternately to secure it with CA glue. I've taken lots of photos, so you can assess the block -- there is a lot of material here that is untouched by the crack. It's basically priced for the "clean" wood that is unaffected by the crack. But you may find that you can use the entire block. |
