This is an attractive end-grain block of Persimmon wood.   This is a dense and very hard wood, with fine grain that swirls around multiple burl buds. 

This block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.  There are no checks or cracks.  There is a bit of bark along one edge.  It's shallow, so if you are turning this block, it will turn off easily.
