This small block of Texas Mesquite is all heartwood. Its color is a beautiful deep reddish-brown.

This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. There is a shallow crack along the annotated face, see close-up of this partially flaked-off area. There is also a bit of wane in one corner which will turn off if you're using this on the lathe.
