Mesquite Block M-1158x 4" x 4" x 8" 3.9 lbs. This is a pretty block of Texas Mesquite with long and fairly straight grain, running subparallel to the long axis of the block. The colors are the deep reddish brown of Mesquite heartwood. The block is rough-sawn. There are a number of pith-associated, age-darkened cracks through this block. They are partially opened and are candidates for filling with epoxy or CA glue. I believe you will need to stabilize these cracks prior to turning. Note - the pith-related, radial cracks in Mesquite are not drying-created features but are formed by severe dynamic stress on the tree during growth (think Texas hurricanes, tornados, or lightning strikes). They are unlikely to grow any larger once the lumber has been harvested and dried. This block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. It has a lot of character that we've attempted to show in the photos. We've cut multiple of this size block, so the piece you receive will not be exactly the one pictured. It will be its equivalent in quality. The photos show multiple blocks of the same size. Pricing is per block. |
