This is an attractive spindle of Texas-grown Silver Maple.  It has an overall light golden tone to the wood with a fine, even grain texture. 

The grain runs parallel to the long axis of the spindle and has gentle curves. This wood has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. This block is rough-sawn and has a thin sliver of bark along one edge. One end has a few small cracks that you may wish to secure with CA glue if turning.
