Madrone Board Md120
0.8" x 5.5" x 20.5"
2.2 lbs.

This is a S4S live-edge board of Pacific Madrone (Arbutus menziesii), a prized hardwood native to the Pacific Northwest. The colors are the warm peach and rose tones typical of madrone heartwood, accented by a beautiful swirling grain pattern that gives the piece a dynamic, organic feel. A single knot creates a striking focal point, with the grain flowing gracefully around it in tight curls. One end of the board retains some bark, adding a rustic, natural edge that highlights the tree’s origin.

This board has been surfaced on all sides (S4S) and carefully air-dried to a stable 10–12% moisture content, making it ready for most indoor woodworking applications. There are a few small open cracks located within the knot and at least one minor check near the bark edge; these are common in madrone and add character without compromising integrity. See close-up photos. If you plan to use these areas on a visible surface, they can be easily stabilized or filled with CA glue, sawdust and wood glue, or a contrasting epoxy for a decorative touch. Our favorite is to mix coffee grounds into epoxy for a high-contrast and natural-looking filler.

Whether you're crafting a one-of-a-kind shelf, charcuterie board, or small furniture accent, this madrone slab offers both visual warmth and structural potential. It would also be well-suited for cutting down for other projects - segmented turnings, cutting board strips, knife scales, etc.
