Madrona Knife Scales Md61 0.5" x 1" x 10" 0.375 lbs. This is a extra-long set of Pacific Madrone knife scales that will make a beautiful knife handle. They are bookmatched, such that the pieces of wood are mirror images of each other. These are a full 10" long, so you can craft an extra-long handle or can cut in half to make two standard-length knife scale sets. The wood is a light peach color with darker peach undertones. Madrona tends to have a lot of color variation throughout, and we think these will make a gorgeous knife handle. The wood has been air-dried to under 10% moisture content. Thanks to the air-drying process, they have retained their full color depth and contrast. The wet photo shows you a preview of the finished knife handle. Some of our knife blanks will have surface blemishes from the sawblade; this will sand off easily. We carry multiples of this size, so you may not receive the same set as photograhed. It will be the equivalent in quality and dimension. About the Tree This Madrona tree lived a long and healthy life on San Juan Island, Washington. It died naturally and was harvested in the course of good forest management. It was standing a while before being harvested, so there is a bit of spalting throughout that adds to its beauty. Not all pieces have spalting, but quite a few have black-line spalting and added color from mineralization streaks. |
