Madrona Block Md78
1.8" x 1.8" x 6.2"
This is an attractive spindle of Pacific Madrone wood. It has light peach color with darker peach undertones.
This is a fully air-dried blank, measuring 10-12% moisture content. Madrona tends to have a fair bit of internal stress stored up due to its twisting and turning growth habit. This gives the wood its gorgeous grain but also increases the risk of cracks occurring while drying. This piece has open cracks as shown in the close-up photos. We recommend stabilizing these with thin or medium CA glue prior to turning.
This size of spindle is useful for a range of turning, carving, or other woodworking projects. Popular projects from this size spindle: game calls, bottle stoppers, shot glasses, tool handles, knife scales, toothpick holders, drawer pulls.
About the Tree
This Madrona tree lived a long and healthy life on San Juan Island, Washington. It died naturally and was harvested in the course of good forest management.
