This is an end-grain block of Huisache (sweet acacia). It is the bright rosy/reddish-brown of Huisache heartwood. This piece is rough-sawn. The grain is long and mostly straight, with exception of a couple of small knots with swirling grain around them.

This piece has been air-dried to 8-10% moisture content. There are superficial surface marks on one face that will sand off easily; these were from this piece's former life as a cracked-up bowl blank. I see no cracks, checks, or flaws in this pretty spindle.
