Eastern Red Cedar Block ERC-352 1.2" x 1.2" x 20.5" 0.4 lbs. This is a long spindle of Texas Eastern Red Cedar. It's a bit oddly shaped, so please look at the photos closely -- scroll down below the first 3 photos. It's got wane edges in two areas, which somewhat limits its turning dimensions. Dimensions listed are the max dimensions (at the widest point, mid-spindle). It narrows to about 1/2 that width at its bottom end, opposite the annotation. This spindle is the deep reddish-purple of cedar heartwood with a smoothly linear to gently curving grain pattern. The wane edges are the sub-bark, and there's really not any sapwood to speak of -- this piece is all heartwood. There do not appear to be any knots in it at all. The board is sealed with Anchor Seal and has been air-dried to ~12% moisture content. |
