This is a very nice square bowl blank of Black Walnut heartwood.  The color is a pleasant medium brown to reddish brown with a very nice, gently-flowing grain pattern.  There are small burl bud clusters scattered throughout. 

The block has one small branch bud cutting through, as shown in the close-up photo.  It causes some attractive swirls in the grain and a bit of chatoyance.  I see no cracks, checks or other significant flaws.
