Alder Bowl Blank Ald103
2.7" x 2.7" x 8"
2.8 lbs.
This is an attractive Red Alder bowl blank with subtle spalting that adds character to an already beautiful piece. The wood is an overall peachy-brown color with warm undertones of red and yellow, accented by faint spalting lines that trace through the grain in dark, irregular patterns. Alder tends to have a lot of color variation throughout. The wood is fully air-dried with moisture content under 10%. These bowl blanks are sold individually. The photos feature several pieces from the same group so you can see the natural variation — each one is unique, and yours will reflect that same character.
About the Tree
This Red Alder lived a long and healthy life on San Juan Island, Washington. It died naturally and toppled over, probably during one of the wind storms that frequently sweep across the island. The slight spalting developed during the early stages of the natural decay process, and was captured at just the right time — enough to lay down those distinctive ink lines without compromising the integrity of the wood.
