This is a beautiful spindle of slightly spalted, Texas-grown Black Walnut.   It's about 60% heartwood, and the sapwood has the attractive patterns of slightly spalted Walnut.  The heartwood has a few zones of spalting to a deep chocolate-brown color.  There are occasional black spalting lines that cross-cut the wood grain.  The grain on this block is rotated 90 degrees, such that the grain pattern is perpendicular to the long axis of the block.

This is a nice, solid block of Texas-grown Black Walnut.  It's been dried to 10-12% moisture content.  I've taken multiple photos of this block, so please scroll down below the first three to see all the photos.
