Black Cherry Bowl Blank BC342 2.7" x 6.2" x 5.7" 1.6 lbs. This is a striking half-log bowl blank of spalted Cherry. It has complete and well-attached bark on the backside. This is a classic half-log blank, split through the center of the log. There is some pith present and minor cracks associated with the pith. You may wish to stabilize these with CA glue prior to turning. Zone and black-line spalting weave through the wood like intricate lacework. The spalting adds character, ensuring that the bowl you craft is one-of-a-kind. With the bark on the backside, you have the option of turning a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. If you want to preserve a full bark edge on the natural rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This blank has been air-dried to achieve a moisture content of less than 10%. It is ready for finish-turning. For a closer look at the wood's details and to better plan your project, you can view multiple images available below the initial three shown. |
