This small block of Texas Mesquite is mostly heartwood with a wedge of sapwood. There is one corner of sub-bark wane. This would be a nice block for a set of knife scales.

This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. There are no cracks or checks. The sapwood has a few critter holes which you can see in the close-up photo.
