Madrone Board Md121

This is a striking live-edge board of Pacific Madrone (Arbutus menziesii), a highly valued hardwood native to the Pacific Northwest. The wood displays the classic warm peach and rose hues of madrone heartwood, complemented by a swirling, organic grain pattern that adds movement and visual interest. A single knot creates a natural focal point, with the grain curving gracefully around it. One full-length live edge adds rustic charm, with bark that is well-attached and patches of the outer scaly bark still present.
The board is rough-sawn, retaining visible saw marks and texture on both faces. The board is rectangular with a bit of an inward curve on its live edge. At its widest (at the ends) it is 8" wide, and at its narrowest (in the center), it is 7.25" wide. It has been carefully air-dried to a stable 10–12% moisture content, making it well-suited for indoor woodworking. Several small open cracks are present -- one within the knot and a few more extending inward from the bark edge. These are typical in madrone and contribute to its natural character. Refer to the close-up photos for detail. These cracks can be left open for a more rustic look or filled for a cleaner finish. Common filling methods include CA glue, wood glue mixed with sawdust, or tinted epoxy. For a natural and high-contrast effect, we recommend mixing coffee grounds into epoxy for a beautiful, earthy filler.
This board offers excellent versatility -- ideal for a statement shelf, charcuterie board, or small furniture feature. It could also be resawn or cut down for a variety of other uses such as segmented turning, knife scales, or contrasting strips in cutting boards.
