Water Oak Block WO-336 2.5" x 2.5" x 12" 2.6 lbs. This is a very nice, lightly-spalted, end-grain spindle block of Texas Water Oak. It is all heartwood with a strong, tightly-flowing grain pattern. There is a beautiful, prominent pattern of grain-crossing, ribbon-like rays on one of the two quarter-sawn faces. Both end-grain faces exhibit some interesting spalting patterns and colors that may show well in the finished piece. There is a fine check on the bottom end of the block (photo 3). You may wish to stabilize this if turning. I see no other cracks, checks, or flaws in this block. |
