This is an end-grain spindle of aged and spalted Texas Bodark.  It has the deep golden-orange of aged Bodark heartwood with the darker hues of spalting.  Once you work with this block, the freshly exposed surfaces will deepen in color with light and air exposure.

This block has open end cracks that you can see in the close-up photo. You may want to fill with thin CA glue prior to turning, which stabilizes the cracks and give you full use of the block.

This block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.
