This is a very nice, smaller 2 inch-square spindle block of lightly spalted Texas Bodark. It is primarily the light golden-yellow of fresh-cut (but moderately aged) Bodark heartwood with some light reddish spalting. There is a fairly thick wedge of creamy sapwood on a portion of two sides and the intermediate edge, capped by a small wedge of bark on the edge. All of the bark and most of the sapwood should turn off as the block is roughed to round. Those fresh-cut Bodar colors will turn to a strong and beautiful dark golden-brown with age and exposure to air and light.
I see no cracks, checks or other significant flaws.
