Madrone Slab Md130
1" x 10" x 18.6"
4.3 lbs.

This is a small slab of Pacific madrone (Arbutus menziesii), grown and sustainably recovered on San Juan Island, Washington. It was taken from near the center of the trunk (excluding the pith), giving it attractive figure, including eye-catching cathedral grain on both faces. There are no knots. There is one check along the back edge, opposite the live edge, that you may wish to fill if you intend to use that side as the finished surface.

This slab has one live edge and one squared edge. The bark is mostly intact (about 90%), with some minor chipping along the face-grain edges. The slab has been wetted with alcohol in a few photos to preview how the grain may look under finish. This piece has not been planed; the surface is rough and shows tool marks.

Length: 18.6" along the live edge
Narrowest: 9.5"
Widest: 10.5" (averaging 10" wide)
Thickness: 1.0" thick
Dryness: 10-12%, naturally air-dried
Finish: Unflattened, rough-cut surfaces
