Black Walnut Block BW-389 2.7" x 2.7" x 14.2" 2.9 lbs. This is a very attractive block of moderately spalted Black Walnut. It is a mix of heartwood and sapwood (about 90%/10%) with clean, uncomplicated grain pattern. There is a beautiful transition of colors from darker to lighter, with some spalting mixed in. The colors are an overall light brown with bands of darker-brown spalting. This particular piece has some patchiness to the color (see photos) that will be eye-catching in a finished product. There are a few superficial sawblade marks that will turn or sand off -- none of these are penetrating the block. One end (by the annotation) has a drying crack that penetrates 2" into the for close-up. |
