This is a stunning end-grain block of highly figured Black Walnut, composed of intermingled heartwood and sapwood. The block features a swirling, complex grain pattern with an eye-catching feather figure. The rich brown color is accented by bands of darker-brown grain, making it visually striking. Light patches of sapwood contrast with the deeper tones of the heartwood.
This piece has been air-dried to under 10% moisture content. This piece has been planed on four sides (S4S), with exception of the live-edge top surface.
This block was cut from a crotch intersection of a branch with the main trunk. There is a series of en echelon open cracks that may require stabilization during turning. We recommend brown or black CA glue or resin epoxy. This piece is probably best suited for an experienced turner.
