This is a beautiful spindle of Texas Eastern Red Cedar. It is about half-and-half heartwood and sapwood with a distinct boundary between the two.  The grain is long and sweeping, with broad curves. One edge has wane, as shown in the photos.

This Cedar is very aromatic -- it smells wonderful!   We've air-dried it to ~12% moisture content in logs that were end-sealed with Anchor Seal.  This piece has been discounted because of a sapwood crack that runs along the front face, to the left of the annotation. You will need to reinforce this with CA glue prior to turning.
